Words of welcome by the Bishop Dr. Rudolf Voderholzer

Dear Visitors to this website,

How can we possibly re-create and pass on to others the joy in our faith and in our relationship to Jesus Christ? What must be done so that “being a Church” and “being Catholic” are not regarded as a defect which we are ashamed of? What can we do to make Christianity a reason for walking upright again in the knowledge that we are thereby not only honouring God in our worldwide unity with our brothers and sisters in Jesus but also making a valuable contribution towards the construction and the solidarity of society?

These targets are a link between all the Catholics in Germany. These targets are also the basis of the project “Synodal Path”.

We are going along the Synodal Path too, but are becoming more and more convinced that it can not bring us to our target along the tracks travelled so far. We are convinced that a Synodal Path is only good and will only lead us to our target if it is followed in the entire Church. The entire Church is not just the worldwide Church; it also includes the Church of our origins and the Church of the saints who have already reached their target. Their well-head is the God-man Jesus Christ who is bodily present in the Eucharist and who builds up the Church on it.

On this page you will find, among other things, alternative texts, commentaries and Vatican opinions about the subjects and forums of the Synodal Path, in which we explain to you our points of view. We place great emphasis on arguments and on “common-sense teaching”. The arguments put forward here in the Synodal Path process have been included as far as possible. However, due to the majority situation which rules there, they have not yet been taken into consideration.

„We“, that is to say the members of the Synodal Assembly and the Synodal forums, who have now formed a group in this way.

We know that we harmonise with the Roman opinions, starting with the Letter from Pope Francis and going up to the texts by the various dicasteries, which you can also find below.

Sympathetic readers will find arguments which can lead these discussions down to a lower level and possibly also contribute towards getting nearer to truth together than is possible by casting votes. Faith must be experienced, and then it can also give freedom, even from polarisations that have got bogged down.

On the festival of the Holy Saint Pope Gregory the Greater, 3rd September 2021

+ Rudolf Voderholzer, Bishop of Regensburg
